Study on the Economic Operation of the Main Transformers

On the consideration of security operation and meet the power supply reliability, this paper calculates the critical economic load of the main transformers to reduce distribution network power loss. The power losses of transformers in separate and parallel modes under different loading conditions are calculated respectively. Thus the criterion of transformers operation mode conversion to reduce power loss is given. The critical economic loads of substations with the same and different capacities of double main transformers are discussed. To verify the loss reduction of transformers economic operation, transformers shut down judgment are made for a real power grid. The power flow of the power gird under different transformer operation modes are solved by Matpower and the power losses of the power grid at several times are compared to illustrate the loss reduction effectiveness.
