Starfish-Shaped MIMO Dielectric Resonator Antenna

In this paper, a starfish-shaped MIMO dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. The design is mounted on Rogers RT5880 substrate with a defected ground plane. It is excited with two microstrip transmission lines. Two orthogonal modes are excited in this design, the TE₁₁₁^x mode at Port 1 and TE₁₁₁^y mode at Port 2. The simulated impedance bandwidth (S₁₁ ≤ -10 dB) is 78.7% (3.15 - 7.24 GHz) for Port 1 and (S₂₂ ≤ -10 dB) is 73.5% (3.13 - 6.78 GHz) for Port 2. The antenna exhibits an isolation above 20 dB with a total gain of 4.2 dB. The design finds application for low and mid band 5G, LTE and WLAN operations.
