Optimal Reactive Power Sizing in Distribution Systems to Optimize the Voltage Profile and Power Loss using FBS Based ESA Algorithm

This paper provides an approach to find out the optimal reactive power size and its location in distribution systems (DS) for the optimization of voltage profile and power loss. The forward-backward sweep (FBS) load flow and exhaustive search algorithms (ESA) are used to compute the load flow parameters and inject the optimal amount of reactive power in the optimal location of the distribution systems respectively. 11-node DS is used as a test system to demonstrate the proposed approach. It is found that the proposed approach significantly optimizes the voltage profile and power loss of the electrical distribution systems. MATLAB programming is used to execute the proposed algorithms such as FBS and ESA.
