An Efficient IoT Model for On-Demand Particulate Matter Control System in Coal Mining Cities

Coal played a significant role in the generation of energy in India. Respirable dust particles are generated during its production, transportation and consumption, which is now a global concern for its adverse health effects in mortal beings. To suppress the coal dust and other suspended particles. Government and Industrial bodies use water tankers for manual water misting. Deployment of water tankers everywhere for dust suppression is onerous.In this paper, we proposed an IoT model and an opportunistic algorithm for automatic misting of rain harvested pressurized water, when the respirable dust level goes beyond the acceptable limit. In this model, real time particulate matter data of the entire area of interest is gathered with the help of wireless sensor networks and sent to the micro-controller to take the decision based on few other sensors data to control the misting process. This framework is not only efficient in terms of dust suppression but also limits the wastage of quality water, which is one of the prime concerns of a coal mining dty.
