Quantum Chemical Simulation of Fluorination on Surface Charge Regulation

DC gas-insulated line (GIL) spacers are faced with serious charge accumulation problems, which probably leads to flashover along gas-solid surface, threatening safe operation of pipelines. By fluorination surface modification, the surface charge dissipation can be accelerated and reliability of power systems can be improved. In this paper, the influence of fluorination on surface charge dissipation and trap distribution were investigated. The mechanism of fluorination modification was analyzed by quantum chemical calculation (QCC). The results show that shallow traps are introduced into the surface of epoxy samples after fluorination, and the surface charge dissipation is accelerated. Through QCC analysis, after fluorination, negative carriers tend to distribute along the molecular chain, which is helpful for migration, while positive carriers are mainly captured near the benzene ring.
