A Modified SEPIC Converter Based Solar Water Pumping System Using SRM Drive

In this work, the performance analysis of a solar powered water pumping system using switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive is done. A modified DC-DC single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is used as the first stage of the proposed system. An asymmetric bridge converter is used for the powering of switched reluctance motor. Incremental conductance (INC) based tracking is used for the maximum power point (MPP). Duty ratio of the high gain SEPIC converter is regulated by MPPT technique. SRM is controlled by closed loop control with current and speed as feedback signals. The modified converter eliminates the complexity of high voltage solar panel arraying and also removes the panel hotspot issues. The developed system is designed and tested using MATLAB/Simulink model under standard environmental test condition. The performance of modified SEPIC converter and the overall system is found to be satisfactory.
