Realizing Autonomous and Intelligent Smart Grid Using Multi-Agent Based Control System

This paper addresses remarkable changes that the traditional grid is currently undergoing to withstand the modern- day requirements. It also presents the important characteristics that a modern smart grid should possess. A smart grid is an integration of technological advancements in communication, control, and information in the power grid to make it intelligent and autonomous. The aim of this paper is to address the complexity of optimality and control functions implemented at different layers of the smart grid. This paper has suggestions that a distributed, decentralized control and optimality functions based on a layered architecture will be an appropriate management strategy to realize the smart grid.
