Realistic SAR Implementation for Automotive Applications

synthetic aperture radar (SAR) set-up is presented which has been implemented at 77 GHz keeping the automotive requirements in mind. The time-domain back-projection algorithm has been realised in real-time which can deliver ready SAR images of the target scenario within milliseconds of having been measured with the radar. With the presented set-up, it is also possible to measure the trajectory of the test vehicle very precisely without the use of external systems, for example GPS. The travelled trajectory can be computed with a maximum error of approximately 2%. The SAR solution is therefore entirely self-sustaining and proven to deliver accurate results.
