Grid Integration of the Wind Power Generation and its Potential Impact on Sub-Synchronous Oscillation

Wind power is the largest emerging renewable energy source and is a perfect energy source. Among the various technologies used to convert wind energy, the Induction Generator has proved to be more popular due to its lower cost, less responsibility for protecting against damaging variables, more rapid changes, greater efficiency in energy change, and progress in system power quality. Incorporation of the Induction Generator with series Compensation Devices Reasons for a largely unfavorable event identified as a Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) in the electrical system. The SSR Induction Generator Effect originates from the interplay of the compensated network series and the circuit of the stator generator. The torsional effect of SSR is also the result of the interaction between the mechanical structure and the electrical arrangement. In these schemes, the grid tolerates speed variations within an extremely narrow range andtherefore limits the use of wind turbines and the power output.
