Grid Standards Conformity Assessment of RES in Western Region of Indian Grid

This paper presents the experience of the system operator in assessing the grid regulation compliance for the renewable energy (RE) resources connected at Inter-state transmission system (ISTS) network in the Western Region (WR) of Indian Grid. The objective is to outline the assessment method followed by the system operator for smooth integration of RE generation into the power system. The assessment parameters mainly cover power quality, fault ride through, reactive capability, voltage control & short circuit ratio. This paper also brings out the key challenges faced by system operator to assess the impact of connected RE station in the grid and the future study on need for evaluation and standardization are summarized.
