Transient Stability Enhancement of Power System by Virtual Synchronous Generator Control of Battery

Recently, as the environmental issues such as global warming and depletion of fossil fuels are becoming serious, renewable energies such as wind power electricity generation have been drawing much attention and widely installed in many countries. Since such renewable energy power generation systems are affected by meteorological conditions such as wind conditions and weather, however, the output becomes unstable, which can lead to frequency and voltage fluctuations in the power grid. Thus, in this research, a new control system has been developed. This system suppresses voltage fluctuations and frequency fluctuations in the event of a network fault such as three-phase ground fault (3LG) in the power grid by using the battery with the functions of the virtual synchronous generator control (VSG) and the reactive power control. Effectiveness of the suggested control method has been examined by simulation analyses of a grid model consisting of conventional synchronous generators (SGs), a storage battery, and a wind farm (WF). As a result, it is obviously confirmed that the suggested control system can prevent the power system from becoming unstable effectively.
