A Compact Singly-Fed Electromagnetically Coupled Circularly Polarized Antenna for 5G Applications

In this paper a singly-fed patch antenna array based on electromagnetically coupled patches is presented. The proposed device operates in circular polarization exploiting the sequential rotation architecture applied to four disc-based patch elements. Each element is proximity coupled to a stacked director patch of similar shape, placed at opportune distance. The resulting structure exhibits a flat band of operation in the C-band, with a gain of 9 dB from 5.9 GHz to 6.4 GHz, suitable for Mid-Band 5G operation.
