A Wideband High-Gain Planar Corrugated Antenna

The design of a wideband high-gain corrugated antenna is investigated in this paper. Two planar substrate layers are used for shaping the corrugations and it is shown that significant enhancement can be achieved in the 3dB gain-bandwidth of the corrugated antenna. Based on the surface susceptance of the corrugated structure, the corrugated structure can be designed by adjusting the resonance frequency of the antenna using just one unit-cell of the structure. Also, a parametric study shows that the widths of the corrugations can be adjusted for having a large 3dB gain bandwidth. The results show that a high gain of 16.8 dBi is achieved along with a wide 3 dB gain-bandwidth of 11.5% at the center frequency of 11.4 GHz.
