Mesh Partitioning Based Direct Domain Decomposition Methods for FEM

This work generalizes the direct domain decomposition method (D³M) for FEM problems to decompositions automatically generated through mesh partitioning. To avoid direct factorization inefficiencies attributed to interface imbalances (very small/large interfaces) a custom block supernodal LDL^T factorization of the auxiliary interface problem is proposed. Preliminary numerical investigations and comparisons with well balanced geometric partitioning based D3M on electrically large problems suggest that the proposed approach remains very competitive in terms of time and memory.
