SAR Monitoring of Coastal Changes in Intertidal Areas

This paper demonstrates how longterm spaceborne SAR imagery of coastal zones can be used to study morphodynamical changes in intertidal areas. Depending on local environmental conditions exposed intertidal flats may show up as dark or bright patches on SAR imagery, thereby allowing the identification, and the tracking, of changes in the sediment distribution that are related to anthropogenic impacts.
