Update and implementation of H.282 remote device control protocol for multimedia conference

For a multimedia conference, various application protocols are standardized with ITU-T H.323 and T.120 series. Remote device control among these protocols provides the following facilities to the conference. Firstly, it enables a conference participant to determine declaration of devices and their associated attributes in a conference. Secondly, it allows a participant to request exclusive or inclusive control to a remote device. Thirdly, it allows a participant to receive event notification and obtain the status of a remote device, and lastly, it allows a participant to select a remote device and receive their information. The RDC (remote device control) protocol is standardized in H.282 which recommends the core services and protocol for performing configuration and control of a remote device during a multimedia conference. This recommendation does not specify the use of a particular transport protocol. Recommendation T.136 describes its application using T.120 as the transport protocol. Recommendation H.283 describes its application using the RDC logical channel transport established using H.234. Our system is implemented based on H.282 with two adaptations, firstly the long time monopoly of the device by device lock primitive is solved, secondly, the device monopoly transfer primitive to new use is appended. The implemented protocol is tested based on H.323 with H.283 which describes the logical channel transport to carry the remote device control protocol for use with systems that use packet switched networks.
