Choice of Appropriate Antenna Configuration for 5G NR Deployment

Advanced Antenna Systems represent one of the key pillars of 5G NR design. The gains associated with their deployment grow with the number of controllable antenna elements, but are highly dependent on the deployment scenario. In this paper, simulation results quantifying the relative capacity gains of AAS over passive antenna configurations depending on the environment type and offered service are shown. Furthermore, impact of increasing the transmitter output power and subarray size is considered.
