Investigation of Energy Efficiency in Underlaid D2D Assisted 5G Cellular Network

Next generation wireless standard 5G is expected to meet huge spectrum demand by enabling new technology, i.e., device to device communication (D2D). This technology enhances spectrum efficiency (SE) while interference management due to device proximity is challenging by coordinating transmission power between cellular and D2D users, i.e., underlaid approach. Another key design requirement fr 5G is energy efficiency (EE). In this research, we investigate the EE of cellular network which is underlaid with D2D for multiple bands while considering several network criteria such as different bandwidths (BW), path loss exponents (PLE), transmission power required for cellular users (CU) and D2D users (DU), reference distances between CU and DU, outage threshold for DU, user density for CU and DU upon the changes. Simulation results demonstrate the truthful impact of these parameters.
