Resonant Cavity Enhanced Interband Cascade Thermophotovoltaic Cells

We present our recent investigations and progress in developing resonant cavity enhanced (RCE) interband cascade (IC) thermophotovoltaic (TPV) cells. By combining the interband cascade configuration with an optical cavity, the conversion efficiency of a narrow bandgap TPV cell can be significantly enhanced. A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) mirror with high reflectance is required to form the optical cavity. We will report our preliminary results for the required DBR mirror and interband cascade stages, as well as related simulations of the designed RCE ICTPV cells.
