Performance Analysis of Unbalanced Three-Phase Linear Distribution Power Flow Model

This paper proposes a three-phase unbalanced linear power flow model and provides a set of comparisons to show the effectiveness of the model when compared to full AC power flow. The linear power flow allows a fast and accurate study of impacts of distributed energy resources on network operations without the need for solving time-intensive iterative power flow equations. The linear model, which is obtained through practical approximations, provides a powerful tool for managing the growing penetration of variable and uncertain distributed energy resources in distribution networks. Numerical simulations on a standard test systems further validate the acceptable performance of the proposed model in achieving high accuracy power flow results.
