Millimeter Wave Characteristics of Copper Sintered Transmission Line

The millimeter wave characteristics of a transmission line with a copper sintered body were estimated through electromagnetic field simulations. The sintered body was modeled based on the existence area of closed pores. The deterioration of the transmission characteristics due to the existence area of closed pores was obtained at less than 0.23 dB/10 mm in the worst case. The results indicate that the effects of the sintered body on the transmission characteristics of millimeter waves are smaller than that of the roughed transmission line on the transmission characteristics of millimeter waves. A microstrip patch antenna with the existence area of closed pores was analyzed. S [1, 1] of less than -16dB was obtained from 26 GHz to 32 GHz. This implies that a copper sintered transmission line can be applied to the microstrip patch antenna.
