Estimation of Viewed Images Using Individual and Shared Brain Responses

This paper presents a method to estimate viewed images by using brain responses measured when persons view images. The proposed method predicts visual features of viewed images from not only individual brain responses but also shared brain responses of multiple subjects. Specifically, the proposed method simultaneously estimates the following two projection matrices: a matrix that converts individual brain responses into visual features and a matrix that converts shared brain responses into visual features. The collaborative use of two types of brain responses is the biggest contribution of this paper. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the estimation accuracy in comparison with methods considering only individual or shared brain responses.
