The Advantage of Novel Ceramic Materials for SF6 Insulated Supporting Structure

Recently, several flashover accidents along epoxy support insulators make it questionable whether epoxy resin possesses the best insulation property under high electric field and large temperature gradient. Ceramic materials possess the advantage of stable electrical property hardly affected by temperature and aging. However, the corrosion property as well as the insulation behavior of ceramics require verification. In this paper, the resistance against HF corrosion, surface charge behavior, surface and volume resistivity and flashover voltage of novel ceramic materials have been tested. Ceramic materials show excellent property of surface charge accumulation, thermal stability and surface insulation property, which worth further investigation as alternative for support insulator in SF6 gas insulated equipment.
