A 10mV Input, 93.6% Peak Efficiency Three-mode Boost Converter for Thermoelectric Energy Harvesting

This paper presents a three-mode low-power boost converter for thermoelectric energy harvesting. The proposed converter can work in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), critical conduction mode (CRM), and continuous conduction mode (CCM) according to different input voltages, which expands the input range and increases efficiency. The proposed converter is implemented in a 0.18 μm standard CMOS process. The input voltage range of the converter can reach 10mV-500mV and the output voltage is around 1.4V. The static power loss of the converter at an input voltage of 10mV is 1.5μW and the conversion efficiency can reach 39%. Besides, the static power loss at an input voltage of 280mV is 41μW and the peak conversion efficiency can reach 93.6%.
