PLCA Experiment for 10Base-T1 Performance Verification

When CAN was developed, its performance was sufficient for its application in vehicles. However, as the amount of data communicated in vehicles continued to increase, data processing using CAN became increasingly difficult. Therefore, the automotive industry required communication systems with higher-performance. To address this, an automaker was used to develop the new Ethernet communication 10base-T1, which reduced the bit-rate to 10Mbps and used a novel bus access method called PLCA.This paper compares CAN, CAN-FD and FlexRay to 10base-T1. The experiment implements bus conditions when using 10base-T1 to compare the data transfer times with other communication methods. The results proved that 10base-T1 was the superior means of communication for application in vehicles.
