Inter-core cross-gain modulation on cladding-pumped multicore fiber amplifier for L-band amplification

We simulated the gain change caused by inter-core cross-gain modulation on cladding-pumped multicore erbium-doped fibers with 7–37 cores by using the average-erbium-population inversion model. It is clear that the pump power and gain modulation had a trade-off relationship with the cladding diameter, and a gain change of less than approximately 0.5 dB was realized by setting the minimum cladding thickness to 23 μm.
