Improvement of Energy Indicators and Dynamic Properties of the Furnace Transformer of an Electrothermal Installation

The article discusses a method for turning on and off a furnace transformer with a detailed description of operations that improve the energy efficiency and dynamic properties of an electrothermal installation. The addition of a thyristor starter with a control pulse generator to the mains switch according to a special algorithm ensures a soft symmetrical switching on of the furnace transformer with the complete elimination of current surges, voltage drops and shock electrodynamic effects on the transformer windings, and it is turned off without switching losses, overvoltage and without the occurrence of an electric arc between contacts of the mains high-voltage switch. The results of numerical experiments on a model illustrating transient processes with the known and new methods of switching on and off the furnace transformer are presented.
