Novel Electronic Gear for Maintaining A Fixed Speed Ratio Between Two Motors-An Industrial Application

In a process industry, speeds in different individual operations in a particular process are normally achieved by either using a main motor, a line shaft and a set of spur gears, or using multiple motor systems with separate electronic drives for each motor where speed synchronization is achieved by using an electronic card for synchronization. However, for any of these speed transmission systems, speed synchronization of each operation in a process can always be deteriorated by system parameter uncertainties and load torque perturbations. Particularly in line shaft system with a single motor, as desired speed ratio between two separate operations is achieved by using a line shaft and different spur gears, so whenever the desired speed ratio is required to change, a substantial amount of time is wasted in changing the spur gears manually with suitable number of teeth to achieve the speed ratio. Similarly, for a dual /multiple motor system, although speed synchronization is achieved by using electronic drives and synchronizing card but accuracy of speed ratio will be hindered by system parameter uncertainties and load torque perturbations until a correction signal proportional to the deviation of speed ratio is immediately sent to the main electronic card responsible for speed synchronization. In this paper, a novel electronic gear system is proposed for maintain a desired speed ratio between the main motor (called Master) and another motor (called Slave) with high accuracy where no line shaft and spur gears are necessary thus eliminates the wastage of time in changing spur gears as well as removes to a great extent any parameter uncertainty.
