A General Integration Method for Small-Signal Stability Analysis of Grid-Forming Converter Connecting to Power System

With the growing integration of renewable resources, more and more grid-forming (GFM) converters are expected to provide voltage and frequency support with emulated inertia to the power systems. However, the small-signal stability analysis of GFM converter connecting to a complicate power network is still challenging. This paper presents an effective and general integration method for stability evaluation of GFM converters interacting with grids in different system configuration. The impedance models of all facilities are efficiently organized and integrated with GFM converters. The eigenvalues-based analysis and closed-loop input-output dynamic models considering the whole power system can be realized. Hence, the proposed method enables a more flexible and comprehensive stability evaluation tool for power systems with GFM converters. A practical case in PSCAD/EMTDC is used to prove the method.
