A review of fault diagnosis methods for rotating machinery

As the core component of mechanical equipment, rotating machinery is subject to faults in tough working environment. Therefore, the effective fault diagnosis of rotating machinery has become a widely concerned topic. Numerous publications about fault diagnosis methods of rotating machinery have been proposed to technical reports, conference proceedings and academic journals. This paper attempts to review fault diagnosis approaches for rotating machinery. First, these methods of fault diagnosis could be divided into four categories, i.e., statistical analysis-based approach, signal processing-based approach, information fusion-based approach, and pattern recognition-based approach. Then, the basic idea of these ways and their disadvantage are briefly described. Finally, this article summarizes the trends developed in the future of fault diagnosis techniques and gives some new research direction. It is expected that this summary can offer a valuable references for boffins and provide the necessary foundation for the subsequent study of the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery.
