Phased Array Conformal Antenna with Quasi-Conformal Transformation Optics Based Lens

In this paper, to enable appropriate radiation properties for arbitrary phase array antennas (PAAs), the application of inhomogeneous metamaterial lenses is discussed. Quasi-conformal transformation optics (QCTO) method and a source inversion (SI) procedure is used to design an arbitrary physical curved PAA coated with a conformal lens to exhibit the same radiating properties of virtual circular PAA. Results of numerical simulation in 2D layout by Comsol™ is presented to show the predicted scanning performances. Also, the limitations in the arbitrary physical PAA are highlighted.
