Analytical and numerical models analysis of squeeze film damper in gas turbine engine rotor support

This work presents a comparative analysis of two methods of accounting convective inertia forces in Squeeze Film Dampers. The analysis of various works in this area has been carried out and two alternative methods has also been selected. The first method is based on an analytical solution by averaging the velocity using Slezkin-Targ method which allows one to obtain simple analytical equations for short and long Squeeze Film Dampers. The second method is based on the numerical solution of equations of the damper with finite length. This requires the use of modern finite element packages to calculate hydrodynamic flows. Comparative analysis shows that the analytical model gives satisfactory agreement with the numerical method in the area of existence for short and long Squeeze Film Dampers. In the case of the finite-length damper the analytical method gives significant differences.
