Study and Experiment of Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing Implementation using USRP and LabVIEW

The 5G is not only improving mobile broadband experience but also increasing massively connected devices. Hence, the dynamic and flexible spectrum allocation for the devices is essential. Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) is one of the promising techniques that meets the above requirements. However, most of the researches are conducted based on mathematical modeling and software simulation. This paper develops GFDM implementation for transmission and reception over the air (OTA) using Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) RIO 2942 and LabVIEW. The spectrum analyzer used is to verify the received signals simultaneously. Experimental results show that GFDM signals are successfully received and confirmed by the spectrum analyzer. Moreover, the GFDM technique can perform transmission by selecting specific subcarriers. The power gap between selected and non-selected subcarriers is -40 dB meaning that out of band emission complies with the 3GPP standard.
