Abstract:

This paper presents an on going project for the development of different RIs (Research Infrastructure) started from the University of Genova and the Ligurian District of Marine technology. This project is called ShIL-Ship in The Loop, Infrastructure for research for ship and harbour systems. The goal is to create a simulation environment in order to test all the systems on board ship, from energy generation to the manoeuvring aspects, takining into consideration cyber security isssues. The ShIL recalls all the most important aspect of an Research Infrastructure which aims to simulate ships and ports: Hardware-in-Loop, Software-In-the-Loop and the ship propulsion system. To have an holistic view of the ship's environment, we propose the integration of a Ship full bridge simulator which can collaborate with several other specific simulators and hardware facilities to co-simulate in real-time. The simulation will be realistic and will include several aspects like ship's dynamic, power management system and cyber security. The project aims to create a unique center of excellence that integrates skills and infrastructure partially available.
