Pocket Labs Development Using NI myDAQ Data Acquisition Device

The paper presents the Pocket Lab for studying DC micro motors. The main goal of this laboratory is to study a DC motor with a pulse-width converter. The laboratory setup includes DC motor, voltage converter board and portable data acquisition device NI myDAQ. The main component of the converter board is an H-Bridge designed for driving DC and stepper motors. To perform the laboratory setup it's necessary to have installed drivers NI ELVISmx and the programming environment NI LabVIEW and NI myDAQ connected with the converter board plugged into PC. The control signals from digital outputs of the NI myDAQ allows to perform rotation direction change and braking of the tested DC motor. Virtual Instruments have been developed in NI LabVIEW for studying motor speed control, reversing and electric braking, pulse-width modulation, measuring speed and current, and plotting the speed-current diagram. The description of the experiment setup and the procedure of conducting experiments are given below. The results of some experiments have been presented. The advantages of Pocket Labs and the problems of their integration into the educational process are highlighted.
