Local End Data Based Fault Detection Technique in Transmission Line Using DWT

In this research work, a novel technique for detection of faults in high-voltage transmission lines has been proposed based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). With the advent of modern fiber optics technology, both end-based fault detection techniques are providing fruitful results. However, in case of communication failure occurring from other ends which results the relay to lose its reliability. This work presents local end-based scheme proposed, in which the current data is measured at local end and decomposed up to level-3 of DWT then, Parseval Energy relation has been applied to detect the faults. To validate the proposed idea, different shunt faults are simulated on 400 kV, 50 Hz, doubly fed transmission system in MATLAB 19/Simulink environment. The simulation results authenticate the effectiveness of proposed algorithm.
