Speed Control of a Nonlinear DC Motor using Fuzzy PD + I Controller

This paper presents a comparative investigation of the performances of fuzzy proportional and derivative plus conventional integral (
$\mathrm{FPD}+\mathrm{I}$
) and conventional PID controllers to control speed of a DC motor on a PC based experimental unit. The gains of the both the controllers were tuned online for reference setpoint tracking using Direct Evaluation optimization method and considering integral of time weighted absolute error as cost function in LabVIEW™ environment. The performance of controllers was assessed in servo and regulatory mode. The comparative study thus performed clearly revealed in every aspect of experimental investigations that

controller demonstrated superior performance compared with the classical PID controller.
