The Impact of Cyberbullying on Mental Health of the Victims

We are currently living in the times of industry 4.0, whose effect and the impact cannot be denied in our way of life. Knowledge and technology are two things that cannot be separated from each other, thus providing opportunities and facilities for humans. Morality becomes loose, and bullying cases are rampant, even spread in cyberspace, which often occurs through social media or better known as cyberbullying. According to the latest digital statistics and internet users released by We Are Social in 2019 Second Quarter (Q2), globally, the number of internet users is around 4.437 billion, with active social media users is 3.499 billion. Cyberbullying certainly has a considerable impact on the psychological of its victims. Unfortunately, many people underestimate the effects of cyberbullying. The impact of cyberbullying on the psychological of the victim is one of which decreases self-confidence, and so forth. The objective of the study is to show the impact of cyberbullying on the mental health of the victims, using a descriptive statistical analysis developed from a survey applied to a sample of the academic community, focused on young people. Descriptive and documentary research was carried out, reviewing various sources of information. The results obtained show that a considerable percentage of the sample has suffered this phenomenon, for numerous reasons, feeling affected in some way, which leads to the search for strategies to minimize these situations that impact the mental health of young people.
