Simulations of As2S3 Fiber Bragg Grating for Weigh in Motion Applications

The paper deals with the numerical simulations of fiber Bragg gratings as promising tools for sensing applications mainly in weigh-in-motion. For higher transparency in infrared region of chalcogenide materials, in the paper are compared transfer characteristics of fiber Bragg gratings based on chalcogenide material As
₂
s
₃
and conventional material SiO
₂
. The paper is focused especially on pressure effects, but marginally also temperature and strain effects are mentioned. Is shown the effect of Bragg wavelength shift caused by the pressure. Bragg wavelength shift leads to change of transmission properties of FBGs. Since, the changes in the reflectance spectrum of the grating results to the changes in temporal properties of the grating, in the paper are presented the temporal properties depending on the pressure. Finally, in the paper is presented the possible using of FBGs for the weigh-in-motion applications.
