Development of a Smart Low Voltage Circuit Breaker with Integrated Protection and Control Functions Based on Wireless Communications

With the development of communication technology and Internet of Things (IoT), traditional low voltage circuit breakers (380V) can be made intelligent with communications. This paper presents a smart low voltage circuit breaker with integrated protection and control functions based on wireless communications. The circuit breaker has various overcurrent and over/under voltage protection function, auto-reclosing and remote control function such as remote opening and closing. It can also monitor the leakage current of the low voltage systems. This makes the operation of the low voltage systems (380V) safer. With collection of the operational data of the low voltage circuits from the circuit breakers, and the development of big data technology, this can make the operation of the low voltage system smarter.
