Merging Operations Technology with Information Technology

Control systems have evolved extensively in the last century. Longer product lifecycles and the discrepancy between operations technology and information technology represent a challenge in today's innovation sector. Starting from a vague, surreal idea of autonomy to the development of the first systems operated by artificial intelligence algorithms, the concept of automated self-managing systems has had significant implications in the field of information technology and operations technology. This paper contributes to the acceleration of the decisional process of merging operations technology with information technology. The purpose is to expose the benefits through studies, examples, and explain the current levels of automation and the evolution from data ingestion, connectivity, communication, processing to decision-making practices supported by artificial intelligence.
