Combustion Kinetics of Coal and Raw Palm Kernel Shells Blend

The process of co-firing coal/biomass is a potential way to reduce CO
₂
emissions from coal-fired power plants. However, the kinetics of combustion of coal/ biomass mixtures have not been widely reported, especially combustion of coal mixtures with extracted palm kernel shells. In this study., the combustion reaction kinetics of the Coal Eco Coal and torrefied palm kernel shells were studied using various conversion function models from thermogravimetric data to find out the reactions that control the mixed combustion process. The results showed that the coal combustion process., torrefaction products were generally controlled by diffusion reactions., where the activation energy required at the devolatilization stage was greater than that of the char oxidation stage. In addition., the activation energy of the mixture is lower than the activation energy required for each component in the mixture.
