DPLPLN: Detection and Prevention from Flooding Attack in IoT

Security is the major concern in IoT communication because nodes are communicating with each other and sharing a lot of information through RPL routing. The malicious node in IoT is very harmful because these nodes are degrading the routing performance and also its presence consumes the network resources like bandwidth and nodes processing capability. In this paper, A Detection and Prevention Low Power and Lossy Network (DPLPLN) scheme is proposed to secure IoT communication. The DPLPLN is providing security by identifying the flooding behavior or junk of packets of Denial of Service (DoS) attacker and identified it in the network. The performance of DPLPLN is comparing with RMDD and the performance of the proposed scheme is better in terms of different performance metrics like overhead and throughput. The main drawback of RMDD is it measures drop probability but in case of flooding, it is sure that data packets drop due to heavy traffic. The RPL routing is superior and using the concept of IPv6 protocol. The proposed scheme is identified the malicious actions of the attacker and the attacker stops malicious activities in the network. Here the RPL routing protocol is used for routing in between the nodes. The performance of each node is evaluated and observe that the loss% in propose DPLPLN is less as compare to RMDD. The Standard Deviation, Variance and round trip performance is provided favorable results in the case of DPLPLN scheme.
