A Design of Microstrip Antenna for S-band

A microstrip antenna with a simple structure for S-band is presented in this letter. The proposed antenna consists of a circular patch, a partial annular ring and an I-shaped ground plane. By loading a shorting pin between the circular patch and the ground plane, a significant reduced antenna size is achieved. The proposed antenna has an operating impedance bandwidth ranges from 2.45 to 3.65GHz, which corresponds to relative bandwidth of 40% and almost covers entire S-band range. The simulation and experimental results of the proposed antenna are presented and discussed. This antenna is suitable for indoor communications, satellite communications, radars, etc.
