Protection Performance During Application of an Intelligent and Fast Switch Series Capacitor to 25kV Radial Power Distribution Network

The application of series capacitor to the radial distribution circuit lead to enhance the voltage quality but the overvoltage problem during disturbance should be considered. The series capacitor exposes to the overvoltage severity causes to damage the series capacitor dielectrics. Also, the fault current level increases when the fault occurs in the network. Therefore, this paper introduced series capacitor associated with an intelligent and fast protective device as a new technology for protection performance of series capacitor instead of the conventional protection method to overcome the overvoltage severity and to mitigate the fault current level as well. This new technique has an advantage in terms of more compact size of power equipment, high performance and less environmental hazard. In addition, the paper presents the comparison between the results of fast switch series compensation and conventional protective device during Ph-g and 3Ph-g fault. Throughout the aforementioned investigation, simulation has been carried out with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK during different types of faulty conditions. Since long time, there has been utmost need of more airtight, effective, coherent and environmentally robust equipment. Therefore, an intelligent protection scheme reduces the number of MOV which in turn more economical, efficient and compact size of FSCB Structures.
