Calculation Method for Athermalized Optical Systems and Athermal Design Based on CODE V

If the ambient temperature changes, the refractive indices of the optical materials, the air spaces between the optical lenses and other parameters will change accordingly. In this paper, a new calculation method for athermalized optical systems based on CODE V is proposed. A macro for thermal analysis was written in CODE V to calculate the air spaces between lenses at different temperatures considering the mounting details. Based on the new calculation method proposed in this paper, an athermalized monitor lens working at -40 to 80 degrees Celsius is designed. The focal length of the lens is 3.3mm, the F-number is 2.4, and the field of view is 120 degrees. This optical system can be matched with a maximum of 1/2.7 inch CCD. The result shows that the lens has a good imaging quality and meets the design requirements over a wide range of required working temperature.
