A Study on the Effectiveness of Non-Monetary Retention Strategies in UAE

Across the globe, employees play a significant role in achieving success for every organisation. However, there has been a tremendous rise in 'job-hopping' for reasons revolving around uneven work-life balance and poor advancement opportunities for existing employees, thereby forcing them to leave the company in hopes of obtaining a better job position. Therefore, it is important for organisations to adopt not only monetary retention practices but also invest in their efforts towards non-monetary retention strategies. As a result, organisations not only obtain motivated employees but also enjoy reduced employee turnover rate. The aim of this study is to identify the contributors to Employee Turnover in UAE and to determine the solutions to curb this situation that is detrimental to the health of any organization. The main objective of this study is to understand the prevalence of the Big 4 non-monetary retention strategies and to understand its effectiveness. The study comprises of both primary and secondary data. The primary data was obtained from a sample of 40 employees working in different sectors, who were selected by the Snowball Sampling technique, while the secondary data was obtained from journal articles and reports. Every sample unit was required to fill the questionnaire comprising of 13 questions- 4 Demographic Questions and 9 subject related questions. Upon conducting the research, it has been identified that non-monetary retention strategies are adopted across industries in the UAE. Though there still remains room for improvement as it has been identified that work pressure, lack of trust and poor career advancement opportunities still triggers employee turnover.
