Experimental Study on The Interference Effect of Wind Load on Two Adjacent Hemispherical Domes

Interference effect of the wind load on two adjacent hemispherical domes was experimentally investigated by adopting the rigid model pressure measurement in the atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel. The wind pressure distribution on a single hemispherical dome was firstly obtained as the reference data. The interference effect on the two adjacent hemispherical domes were then analyzed in detail, considering different incident wind directions. The results show that the mean wind pressure on the single dome presents a symmetrical distribution trend along the stream-wise direction of the wind axis. Positive wind pressure is observed in the low latitude zones on the windward surface, while on the other part of the dome surface the wind pressures are all negative value (i.e., wind suction). Large wind suction is found in the high latitude zones along the stream-wise direction of the wind axis. The fluctuating wind pressure coefficient is also in a symmetrical distribution but the value is not that large. Thus, the interference effect of the two adjacent domes is mainly investigated in the aspect of the mean wind pressure distribution. It is observed that when considering the influent of the adjacent dome, there exists significant discrepancy under different incident wind directions. The interference effect on the wind pressure is obvious on the windward surface of the target dome when the interfering dome locating in the upstream, while gets remarkable on the leeward surface if the interfering dome locates in the downstream.
