Scalable High-Accuracy Ranging and Wireless Frequency Synchronization for Open-Loop Distributed Phased Arrays

We present a scalable approach to joint high-accuracy inter-node ranging and wireless frequency synchronization in distributed antenna arrays. Wireless coordination of the phases of separate wireless nodes enables distributed phase-coherent beamforming, however such coordination necessitates ranging at a fraction of the beamforming wavelength and stable frequency alignment. The authors previously demonstrated separate approaches to scalable high-accuracy ranging and wireless frequency synchronization using spectrally-sparse waveforms. In this work, we introduce a combined approach to ranging and frequency synchronization using a scalable, spectrally-sparse waveform.
