Transdimensional photonic lattices with multipole Mie-resonant nanoantennas

We analyze how van der Waals materials can be used as a material platform for designing metasurfaces and ultra-thin optical elements using transdimensional photonic lattices. Because of materials' strong response to light excitations in visible and near-infrared ranges, the nanostructure can be used for subwavelength light confinement. Nanoscatterers' characteristics can be controlled by nanoantenna dimensions and their arrangement. We analyze optical antennas made of van der Waals layered materials including highly conductive materials, with high refractive index, and natural material with strong anisotropy and hyperbolic dispersion. The nanoantennas in the periodic array support multipole Mie resonances including electric and magnetic dipoles and higher-order multipoles, and collective array response defines properties of multipole resonances.
